Things I am awful at

Wednesday 10 October 2018

I know you have probably been here before and therefore have already read some of my ramblings. But guess what? I'm back. My post the other day, 'My Bad Habits', did really well and people seemed to really enjoy it because it was more personal. So here we are again, going down the old personal route.
Whilst relaxing in a bath the other day, surrounded by bubbles and binge-watching Disenchantment  (wouldn't recommend) on Netflix, I started thinking about all the things I am awful at. Does that sound bad? It doesn't sound healthy, but I think knowing your flaws is sometimes a step forward. Anyway...

Despite the fact I take a Media and Creative Writing course and I basically write every single day, I honestly can't spell and I regularly mix up To, Too and Two. Personally, I think it's laziness. I don't need to learn how to use grammar correctly because I have things like spell-checking and Grammarly on my computer which means I don't have to. But basically, I am nearly 21 and writing a basic sentence can sometimes be a challenge.

A running joke in my family is that I can't tell the time on a traditional clock. And the truth is, I can but it takes me SO LONG. That I just don't bother. I always have my phone on me so what's the point? If I can just whip my phone out and have it tell me the time, then why would I put in the manual labour. As I am writing this post, I am starting to realise that maybe I am just lazy. Am I lazy? (starts having a sudden realisation)

I know this sounds like the opposite of a problem. But sometimes, just sometimes, a little white lie is fine and I can’t even manage that. My face tells it all basically. When something is even a little bit further from the truth, my face will screw itself up into a cheeky smile or, and even worse than that, sometimes I will keeping going, to try and prove my lie. Let me explain… For example, if someone asks me how many coffees I have had in a day and I lie and say 2 when I have actually had 6 (it was a bad day), then I will begin over explaining to make them think I am telling the truth, which usually ends in them knowing I am lying anyway. So basically, this is how the conversation will go:

Them: “Asher, you are shaking, how many coffees have you had today?”

Me: “Only 2”

Them: “Are you sure?”

Me: “Yeah”

Them: “…”

Me: “I had a vanilla latte, a cappuccino and just a regular coffee”

Them: “…”

Me: “And it was really weird because I put an extra sugar in my vanilla latte”

Them: “…”

Me: “And you know I don’t usually have sugar in my vanilla latte, but today, you know what I thought, it needs a second sugar. I think there is a new barista or something because usually, they know exactly how I like my coffee and they just didn’t make it right this time”.

Them: “So how many coffees did you actually have?”

Me: “5 or 6”.

Them: “Yeah, thought so”.

I am the queen at remembering deadlines, past work and appointments but give me a set of keys, a card or a phone and I will lose it. I usually put my card in my boyfriends or my best friends (Hi Shalieka) wallet because if it's in my possession too long, it will disappear. Currently, as I am writing this, I have no clue where my keys are. I haven't seen them in about two days and I am using the spare ones to my house at the moment.  Which is terrifying as an adult woman.

I am the worst when it comes to spoilers. You haven't seen that film yet? Well then, let me tell you every single thing that happens, by accident. Oh, we are watching a TV show and I've already seen it? Well in season 3 something MASSIVE happens and then this person dies but this person doesn't. I apologise to anyone who is currently watching anything with me. And I apologise in advance for anyone who is planning too.

Anyway, here is my list of things I am terrible at. I hope it made you laugh, it made my laugh whilst I was writing it so, let's hope I have spread that joy a little. Thank you so much, my little rays of sunshine for all the support. My Bad Habits posts did so well and I hope you enjoy part 2 of me being that little more personal.

  11. Omg that conversation about the coffee 100% reminds me of my best friend! I can always tell when she's lying, but tbh I'm pretty good at lying... not sure if that's a good thing though...

  13. The word bank in INK FOR ALL isn’t nearly as thorough as Grammarly's but it's getting there. INK’s built-in AI levels up while you create content. Also, INK FOR ALL sizes up your work v ranking articles on the web to ensure your work appears. The more you write the more it adapts. Grammarly does not help with optimizing for search does not matter the amount you spend. http://bit.ly/2IiHXlQ
